Murphy's Lore

The original band (Highly Strung) was formed in 1992 and developed over several years playing Celtic music - Irish and Scottish, for Ceilidh's and Barn Dances, parties and weddings. The strength of the band lies in its ability to be flexible, playing jigs, reels, polkas, marches, waltzes etc and adding vocals - songs from the Folk tradition. The band call upon one of several excellent callers for Ceilidhs and Barn Dances. The music is well arranged and delivered through a high quality sound system.

The band appear regularly at festivals in the South (Wimborne Folk Festival, Christchurch, Larmer Tree, Swanage etc) and have played for events at Beaulieu and Athelhampton House. The band is a firm favourite on the Folk Club circuit and enjoys a loyal following.

Murphy's Lore is a five piece Celtic/Ceilidh/Barn Dance band:

    Noleen Ryan-Smith: Vocals/guitar/bodhran/whistles
    Alex Smith: Bass guitar/guitar/ vocals
    Jim Lush: Accordions
    Kate Carpenter: fiddle/bass fiddle
    Julian Gurr: Caller/mandolin/banjo/bodhran

Dear Murphys Lore,
Everyone at PHARMAQ wants to thank you for the superb performance you put on last Friday in Bournemouth. It was the high point of our global meeting. How Julian managed to do the calling when there were Norwegians, Chileans and even Brits on the dance floor I don't know. In case you didn't count, all 80 of us were on the dance floor! Age range was from 20 to 75!
We really appreciated your efforts. Feedback on the meeting we've received from the team said that your band was the high spot of their visit.
