Michael Hulmes

Michael Hulmes is twenty seven years old. He started playing classical guitar when he was eleven, made his first public performance at the age of twelve and gave his first solo recital just before his fifteenth birthday. He studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London for four years, firstly with Michael Edmonds and later with Robert Brightmore. He then studied at the Welsh College of Music and Drama with renowned British Guitarist John Mills. In his final year at the college Michael made his national radio debut as part of the BBC Radio Two Young Musicians' Series, being only the second guitarist to do so in the history of the competition.

go to main pic Over the past ten years Michael has participated in master classes with John Williams, David Russell, Nigel North, Simon Dinnigan, Paul Galbraith, Craig Ogden, Gordon Crosskey, Nicola Hall, David Miller, and Steve Gordon. He is presently working with world famous concert guitarist Fabio Zanon.

Today, Michael is in demand as a concert performer. He has performed on television and radio for the BBC and independent stations . He has recorded three albums and has just released his new CD Solo. In addition to a busy concert platfom schedule, Michael also performs for corporate clients, weddings, receptions and dinners throughout the South.

Michael Hulmes is a member of Yehudi Menuhin's Live Music Now scheme and a past BBC Young Musician of the Year Finalist, he plays a Torres style guitar by luthier Rohan Lowe.
