Gypsy Jazz is also known as Gypsy Swing or Hot Club Jazz and has it’s roots in France where it is also known as ‘Jazz Manouche’. The brilliant guitarist Django Reinhardt developed this style in the 1930s and it gained popularity through to the 1950’s. Jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli worked with Django in his quintet ‘The Hot Club Of France’ to become the world’s best known Jazz Violinist.
Gypsy Jazz swings like crazy and this swing comes from the rhythmic strumming style of the Gypsy Guitar which defines the distinctive sound. Music includes ‘Minor Swing’, Bal Musette’, ‘Avalon’ and ‘Sweet Georgia Brown’.
This music is great for drinks receptions and informal gatherings where it creates an interesting musical backdrop. It is also popular for wine bars and restaurants.
