The B.B.C. Big Band tours extensively throughout the U.K. for radio concert presentations and it’s own concerts which include playing at festivals and events around the world.They regularly feature leading singers and instrumentalists as guests. These have included Van Morrison, Georgie Fame, Michael Ball, Martin Taylor, Ian Shaw, and Claire Martin.
It has also entertained thousands with international stars such as Tony Bennett, Billy Cobham, George Shearing, Michel Legrand, George Benson, Natalie Cole, Billy May, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Louie Bellson, Lalo Schifrin, Patti Austin, James Morrison, Ed Thigpen, Ray Charles, and Dr. John.
Recent overseas visits have included the U.S.A., Canada and numerous excursions into Europe. There is no other band in the world today with such a diverse repertoire ranging from the classics of the swing era throuhg to contemporary jazz and popular music. The bands long running programme “Big Band Special” can be heard each Monday on Radio 2.
