The Alan James Band has quickly established a reputation for entertaining, swinging 'Dixieland' music second to none. Its members are all vastly experienced, most of them have been successful band leaders in there own right and are dedicated to their music.
The wide variety of their engagements indicates their wide appeal. Jazz clubs and festivals are their natural gigs certainly, but Country Shows, Firework Festivals, Weddings, Rotary Dinners and Company functions of all sorts find them just as much at home. One of the more unusual days had to be playing at sea on HMS Illustrious the air craft carrier.
The band is a six piece Dixieland group playing in a well established 'tradition' but on occasion is happy to perform as a smaller group. A piano, bass, drums trio for instance is ideal for that intimate dinner, while the addition of a front line instrument can lend variety.
The band have backed many of the finest jazz stars in the UK including Don Lusher, Kenny Baker, Terry Lightfoot, John Barnes, Enrico Tomasso, Digby Fairweather, Kenny Ball, Roy Williams, Tommy Whittle and many more.
Putting the accent firmly on melody by adding vocalist Jo Baker to the line up can add a totally new dimension. Her wide experience as a cabaret and dinner entertainer is apparent the moment she steps on stage.
