Maria Comerford Band
The Maria Comerford Band is a new breed of young, cool jazz musicians who do not simply solo for half an hour (though they brilliantly could!), but every arrangement is meticulously worked out with an emphasis on 'entertainment'. The accent is on stunning vocals, great musicianship and humerous interaction with the audience. When you book this band you are not just booking a band you are booking an event. And remember, you can have any combination from a duo to a six piece.
Maria Comerford and her band are happy to travel around Britain & Europe to 'swing up' your event Maria has been singing professionally since the age of 16 and has since then worked in over 100 countries with her own various bands. Appearances on 'The Michael Barrymore Show', RTE, BBC Wales have elevated her to one of the UK's most sought after jazz performers. Her voice is one of the ppurest uncompromising and articulate instruments and perfectly matches her carefully worked out repertoire featuring the songs of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, and everything through to Diana Krall, Patti Austin and Nora Jones. She has appeared as support to Barry Manilow in Japan as well as Debbie Reynolds and Neil sedaka. She has performed extensively on cruise ships including QE2, Saga Fjord, Cunard Princess, P & O Aurora, Oceana, Adonia, Oriana, Arcadia, NCL Dreamward and many others. In the USA for the Mayors of Philadelphia and Boston as well as appearances for the Japanese, Oman and UAE Royal Families and ruling leaders. London appearances include the Hilton Park Lane, The Langham, Kensington Hilton, Brockett Hall to name but a few. Corporate work includes: events for Audi, Volkswagen, T-Com Deutsche Telekom THE BAND Tony Ormesher (guitar). Studied at the Guildall, London. Won the Daily Telegraph Young Jazz award and the Young Musicians Award. He took Masterclasses with Billie Cobham, Kenny Wheeler and David Liebmen and has toured all over Europe. Eric Ford (drums). Inspired by Gene Krupa he took up the drums at age 11. Won Best Drummer Award in The Daily Telegraph Young Jazz competition at 17. At 19 joined The Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra accompanying artists such as Bill Watrous, Nigel hitchcock, Bobby Shew etc.. Dominik Schirmer (piano). Studied Jazz piano in Holland and then went on to Paul McCartney's Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. He has a BA in music and won the Greenberg Glass Award for 'Expertise in Jazz'. He composes for German radio and for shows on the 'Queen Mary 2'. Roland Havranek (bass). Studied at Paul McCartney's Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. He is an international performer and session musician on Double Bass and electric bass. In 2003 he accompanied Camille Davila on her European tour. He joined the Maria Comerford Band in 2005.
