Derek NashVoted one of the top five Alto players in the 1998 B.T. Jazz Awards, Derek Nash is at the forefront of the young British Jazz movement. His solo album 'Setting New Standards' features mainstream giants Alec Dankworth and Clark Tracey alongside 'Incognito' keyboard star Graham Harvey in an acoustic masterpiece.
His band 'Sax Appeal' has recorded four albums, toured the world and won a string of awards, culminating in the John Dankworth Award in the 1998 B.T. Jazz Awards. He has worked with Barbara Thompson as lead alto in her Big Band, Dick Morrissey in the John Burch Octet, Spike Robinson in the 'Young Lions, Old Tigers' Quintet and fronts fusion band Atlantik Ave. with guitarist Tony Remy. Apart from the jazz scene, Derek is very active in Pop, Soul and Blues music, performing and recording with Suzi Quatro, Basia, ex Fleetwood Mac guitarist Peter Green and "Gambler- Soul Survivors". This has meant concerts alongside The Crusaders, 10cc and The Average White Band. A nationwide tour with the Bootleg Beatles led to performances in front of 40,000 at Earls Court, and millions world-wide when Channel4 broadcast live from the Glastonbury Festival. Derek Nash has played on many soundtracks of themes and incidental music for BBC Radio and TV series and is also a successful record producer and engineer, working on albums for the likes of Bobby Wellins, Martin Drew, Dave O'Higgins, Just East of Jazz, Alan Barnes and Tenor Madness. Derek Nash is available as a Solo artist, duo, trio or quartet for festivals, jazz nights, dinner jazz, receptions, corporate and private functions. |
