LSQ was formed in 1997 around the unique talents of Linda Sandiford, a singer known hitherto in the sphere of commercial music for her recordings and world tours with the group UB40. With her considerable experience of music at an international level Linda now combines a striking and unforgettable charisma and a voice of the highest calibre to make her one of the outstanding British performers in the jazz idiom.
The ensemble's considerable reputation also depends upon top level playing and a repertoire of polished and subtlely crafted arrangements tailored by musical director Simon Ferris specifically for Linda's matchless qualities. Typical playlists outline a seamless blend of original material with imaginative interpretations of the standards of the jazz canon; always seeking to explore the seldom heard jewels of the genre alongside the more familiar staples, and always seeking to reinvent and to shine new light. The merely regurgitative deserves no place here.
Successful recent engagements at the Guinness Cork International Jazz Festival 2000 and at premier London music venues (Mezzos, Quaglino's, Sound Republic, Soho Jazz Festival) as well as for blue-chip corporate employers (Yves Saint Laurent, Rothschilds, Sheraton Park Tower, Reading University, Debenhams, Racing Green, Burtons, City of London Club, Institute of Directors etc.) attest to the quality of the project and to the highly regarded status with which the ensemble is continuing to establish for itself a firm and permanent place in the British music scene.
