Urban Blue
Urban Blue perform jazz standards, soul music and pop classics as a flexible 2-6 piece band and are available for any event.Urban Blue can do it all - anything from the quietest of background piano music with or without vocals, to getting the party started on the dance floor with a funky instrumental six-piece band. The emphasis is on jazz standards, but they also cover a few pop and soul vocal numbers, and can often arrange to make sure they play your favourite songs, whatever the style.
Urban Blue are well aware of the need for a professional attitude and presentation. They are particular experienced in wedding receptions, but are perfect for corporate functions, private parties and similar. Whenever quality music and high-class performance is required, Urban Blue will deliver every time.
As well as the vocal-led ensembles, which can be between two and six pieces, Urban Blue are also available as a purely instrumental ensemble, ranging anything from James as a solo pianist up to a six piece band. When performing as an instrumental group, material ranges from cocktail jazz and smooth standards, to latin and funk standards when appropriate. As an instrumental band, Urban Blue is incredibly versatile - they can perform anything from background cocktail music, to a whole set of funk and latin dance tunes with a band including brass section and a percussionist, to get your dance floor grooving - and unlike most bands, Urban Blue can cover all of these styles in one evening!
The band are privileged to count Sir Paul McCartney among their many high profile clients. He personally chose Urban Blue to provide the entertainment for his music publishing company's Christmas party - and liked it so much that he jumped on stage and sang 3 Beatles classics with them!
Urban Blue also featured in the film "Brideshead Revisited" (starring Emma Thompson and Michael Gambon), played at the Sports Industry Awards (attended by the likes of David & Victoria Beckham), and for three years running have flown out to Hong Kong to perform at the world famous 5 Star Intercontinental Hotel's New Year's Eve celebrations. Urban Blues musicians have played with: Amy Winehouse, The Feeling, Kylie Minogue, Michael Buble, Jamie Cullum, Phil Collins, Jules Holland, Take that, The Brand New Heavies, Sophie Elllis Bextor etc.
