Keith Nichols & the Blue Devils

go to main pic Keith Nichols is widely recognised internationally as one of the finest exponents of classic jazz from the days of Ragtime to the Swing of the 40's. In the 1970's he founded the Midnite Follies which recorded for EMI, and since the early 90's he was musical director for the Cotton Club Orchestra and Cotton club Band. In 2003, Keith launched his new band "The Blue Devils".

Sell out concerts, the release of an acclaimed debut album and appearances at jazz festivals in Keswick, Bude and Swanage, have quickly established the band at the forefront of the vintage jazz scene. "The Blue Devils" are already considered to be the finest band of its kind in the UK.

The ensemble is equally adept in concert situations or providing music for dancing. Keith's presentation is both informed and witty, and his programmes always feature the more familiar alongside examples of the more obscure and fascinating. The repertoire encompasses Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman, Bix Beiderbecke and many other great names from the golden age of jazz.

Keith has picked 10 musicians who are all specialists in the styles of the period, and their authentic and virtuosic playing brings to life this great music and recreates the excitement of jazz at its hottest.

"The Blue Devils" are available in various line-ups. In its standard form, "The Blue Devils" is a 10-piece band, however this is available as an 11- piece with the addition of a female singer. For smaller gatherings a 7-piece called "The Little Devils" is available with optional female singer making-up the 8-piece. Keith Nichols is also available with smaller ensembles and as a soloist.
