The Arion Flute and Harp Duo features two of London’s finest classical musicians playing for weddings and events.
Flute and harp is a wonderful combined sound that composers have favoured throughout history, dating back to the pipes and lyres of ancient times. Arion Duo mix classical repertoire for flute and harp with their own arrangements of popular songs, and they particularly enjoy playing their original arrangements of Celtic Folk music.
Eliza Marshall and Camilla Pay have played together as the Arion Duo since they studied at the Royal Academy of Music. Together, they have performed Mozart’s Flute and Harp Concerto and have given recitals on cruise ships around Europe and Africa. They have delighted audiences at various venues including Blenheim Palace, Syon Park, Hampton Court and St. James’ Palace. They also regularly play together at the Landmark Hotel.
Camilla Pay – Harp
Camilla began playing the harp at the age of eight and became a music scholar at King’s School Canterbury. She was twice overall winner at the Kent Festival, regional finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year and finalist in the World Harp Festival. In 1997, she was awarded the Craxton Memorial Award and an entrance scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, where she graduated with honours on a Bachelor of music degree. There, she studied with acclaimed harpists, Skaila Kanga and Daphne Boden.
Camilla’s solo endeavours have taken her to Prague for the World Harp Congress and a performance at the European Harp Symposium in Amsterdam, as well as many recital venues throughout Britain. She has also performed various concerti, including Mozart’s Flute and Harp Concerto in Canterbury Cathedral. Camilla’s experience in the National Youth Orchestra and London Philharmonic Youth Orchestra led her comfortably into the Royal Academy of Music’s Symphony Orchestra. Since then, she has played principal harp in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the South Bank Sinfonia. Her session work has included album tracks for Morrissey and Incognito, and television performances with Natalie Cole, Aled Jones and Hayley Westenra. She played with Barry Manilow at Blenheim Palace and recorded a BBC special with him. She has also played with soprano Katherine Jenkins on several occasions and a highlight for Camilla was when she accompanied Sir James Galway at the Classical Brit Awards at the Royal Albert Hall.
For two years Camilla was harpist in residence at the Grosvenor House Hotel and currently holds residencies at the Langham Hilton and the Park Lane Hilton.
Eliza Marshall – Flute
Eliza is also a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied with Michael Cox. She has travelled widely, playing alongside Patrick Gallois in the Hiroshima Hope Orchestra in 1999, as principal flute in the British Rock Symphony Orchestra Tour of the USA in 2000 and again as principal in the International Festival of Classical Music in the Seychelles in 2000. In May 2002 she performed with the Seychelles International Festival Symphony Orchestra, in both the Seychelles and Kenya.
As a soloist, Eliza has toured much of England and Northern Ireland. Earlier this year she was presented with the Chris Taylor Flute Award at the Royal Academy of Music and received a scholarship to attend the Lake Placid Flute Seminar in New York.
Performances include her debut at St. Martin-in-the-Fields with guitarist, James Boyd and premier performances of new works by student composers at the Royal Academy of Music with members of the Nash Ensemble. More recently she has worked with the singer Katie Melua in the UK and Germany and is the flautist on the touring show of Beauty and the Beast. Eliza, who has just returned from an orchestral tour with India’s first professional symphony orchestra, also enjoys playing in many chamber groups and has an interest in folk music, especially of Scottish origin.
